I had a friend who was hungry and alone
He found a box of leftovers beside and old pay phone
he took the first bite and his eyes did open wide
to see a dark figure with a nightstick by his side
it said “hey son, now throw that food away
you won’t be eating nothing here today
and my friend said, “but officer, I haven’t eaten in days
It’s just a little bit of leftovers food man, I’m hungry”
and the figure said “Kid, now listen here to me,
Quit talking back and respect my authority
or I’ll plant cocaine on you and haul you off to jail
and trust me son you won’t be making bail

So you better look out, when you see that black and white
they’ll follow you when you’re alone in the middle of the night
find a place to hide cause if your house is made of straw
It’s gonna get blown over by good ole johnny law

I knew some folks who were sleeping by the tracks
just minding their own business just trying to relax
when they heard some footsteps on the gravel and they saw a flashing light
and a voice said you can’t sleep out here tonight
now life is hard, when you can’t afford a bed
they make it so you break the law every time you lay your head
when you try to ask why they tell you don’t resist
It’s practically illegal to exist

so you better think fast when that ole sheriff rolls around
he’ll draw his gun and tackle you and throw you to the ground
he’ll take you in and he’ll beat you sore and raw
now you’ve encountered good ole johnny law

well I was walking and my legs were really tired
to sit down for a moment was all that I desired
as i set aside my burden and stretched out my weary feet
you can probably guess who I chanced to meet
He said “this land is not your property so move it right along
for you to sit on this concrete is wrong
we own the sidewalk not to mention the whole nation
now get out of here and here is your citation
and your dog, wagging her tail
you got a license for that pup, I’ll take her off to jail
she wasn’t tied right to your side she was running playing ball
tell your dog that playing here is illegal

so you better hide when you see that red and blue
they’ll capture all you crusties and your little doggies too
when will we have enough, what will be the final straw
when will we get rid of good ole johnny law
